Welcome to the Waterfront Montessori Children's Centre

Waterfront Montessori Childrens Centre offers a unique approach to meet the needs of the whole child. Here the principles of Montessori are combined with the play-centered approach of Early Childhood Education. Each of the staff has a strong background in one approach with an openness towards the other. This gives us a rich program which truly provides the best of both worlds. WMCC is part of the Toronto Island residential community and is located on Algonquin Island. Just minutes away from the city, our centre is surrounded by natural meadow and parkland. Nearby lagoons, beaches and a small farm provide environments for discovery and earth education. The three-year period children can spend at WMCC sets the foundation.

Integral to their education are movement, language, music, science, math, art, seasonal exploration, grace and courtesy, self--care and care of the classroom. Montessori offers the children the opportunity to find their place in the world by exploring concrete materials. Teachers are there to observe and guide each childs progress. Weekly French and creative movement sessions are run by regular instructors and are available to all children. There is time each afternoon to rest or nap and listen to stories and music. Our playground is equipped with a waterplay area, large building blocks, climbing equipment, vehicles and toys. At our doorstep is an environment where the children naturally gain an understanding and respect for nature. We take frequent trips to other parts of the Island. Seasonal celebrations are often observed with parades, feasting, costumes and singing.
